TAX ALERT: Important Information Regarding the NEW New Jersey Tax Portal 400 400 SAX LLP - Advisory, Audit and Accounting

New Jersey has launched the first phase of its modernized tax-filing system. Business owners can create profiles on the NJ Tax Portal to access filing assistance, account details, payment history, and to manage filings. Portal profiles also allow taxpayers to store information for future filings. Portal profiles also allow businesses to streamline filings, and delegate access to a tax preparer or another professional. Delegates can manage the business’s account, submit filings, and access important details directly from the portal.

Although portal profiles are not mandatory, they are recommended given the associated benefits.

Note that the telephone-based Sales Tax filing system will be discontinued.

A 30-day extension for returns and payments due in May will be granted for Phase 1 taxes (waiver of penalty or interest). For example, if your tax return is due on May 20 (e.g., sales tax returns), 2025, you will have until June 20, 2025, to file and pay without penalty or interest.

Businesses need the following information to set up a profile:

  • Taxpayer ID;
  • Line 1 of a recently filed return; and
  • The four-digit PIN (included in the Welcome Letter from the New Jersey Division of Taxation). You can also request a PIN on the Business Tax/NJ Tax Portal PIN Request page.

The New Jersey Division of Taxation has published FAQs which can be accessed here.
