Oct 21 Sax’s 4th Annual Founders’ Award Gifts $15,000 to the Nonprofit, Fighting Children’s Cancer Foundation
Parsippany, NJ, October 22, 2021: Top 100 accounting, tax and advisory firm, Sax LLP, is proud to announce their winner of its fourth annual Founders’ Award. Fighting Children’s Cancer Foundation was awarded the $15,000 unrestricted gift for best addressing this year’s theme of “Imagination”.
Sax’s Nonprofit Practice initiated the application process and nearly 150 nonprofit organizations submitted non-professional videos for their chance to win the award by answering the following questions: (1) What creative solutions have you implemented to address your nonprofit’s challenges in the past year?; (2) How have you leveraged imagination to overcome the adversity your organization has faced? Five independent judges went through the submissions in a thorough, independent review process to determine the winner, in addition to 2nd and 3rd place who received volunteer hours donated by Sax employees to support their missions. The judge’s scoring system was based on criteria that included: (1) Is this response telling of what the organization seeks to accomplish? (2) Is this response telling of progress and impact the organization has made? (3) Is this response in line with an organization seeking to further its mission?
The first-place winner and recipient of the $15,000 gift was Fighting Children’s Cancer Foundation and was announced at the Founders’ Award ceremony held on September 23, 2021 at The Graycliff in Moonachie.

Winner Announcement
The 2021 Founders’ Award judges concluded that Fighting Children’s Cancer Foundation best addressed their use of imagination in the face of adversity, and the organization walked away with $15,000 to support their mission of providing needs-based financial assistance to families struggling with pediatric cancer.
“What an incredible honor to be the recipient of the Sax’s 2021 Founders’ Award! We are grateful to be recognized for the imagination and heart that went into supporting families as they navigated pediatric cancer AND COVID-19 this past year,” said Andrea Inauen, Executive Director of Fighting Children’s Cancer Foundation. “On behalf of our Board of Directors, volunteers, and most importantly, the children and families who will be helped because of this award – thank you!”
Todd Polyniak and April Kushner were emcees of the night on behalf of Sax’s Nonprofit Practice and attempts to continuously align the firms Founders’ Award and ceremony as one that would honor the principles of Sax’s Founders – Sander Sax, Morris Macy and Egon Fromm – who inspired the vision of propelling organizations forward by supporting their success.
“The Founders’ Award event is beloved by our firm, as is a great way to make a big impact on organizations that do so much on so little,” said Todd Polyniak, Partner-in-Charge of Sax’s Nonprofit Practice. “We have a new team of award judges each year, but the feedback from them is always the same – how difficult it is to determine a winner out of so many deserving organizations. That goes to show you how much good work is being done by our local nonprofits, and we are privileged to be able to honor them in this way.”
“This event is not only about gifting a $15,000 check to a local non-profit, but also as a forum to celebrate the work of these organizations,” said April Kushner, Senior Manager and member of Sax’s Nonprofit Practice. “The award announcement is indeed the culmination of the judging process and event, but gathering in a room with so many organizations, and being able to listen and learn about the different missions at work always leaves you feeling inspired and uplifted.”
In addition to the Founder’s Award winner, two runner-up organizations were selected for their demonstration of leveraging imagination in the face of adversity. Second place and 40 volunteer hours towards their mission was awarded to Family Promise, Inc. who works to help those experiencing homelessness and low-income families achieve sustainable independence through a community-based response. Third place and 25 volunteer hours towards their mission was awarded to Paralyzed Veterans of America, Buckeye Chapter, who strives to improve the quality of life of honorably discharged veterans who have spinal cord injury, dysfunction or illness.
