SAX EMPLOYEE SPOTLIGHT: JOSHUA WEINBERG

This month, we would like to shine the Sax Spotlight on recently promoted A&A Manager, Joshua Weinberg who joined Sax in June of 2017 working out of our New York City office.  Originally from Westport, Connecticut, Josh went to college in South Florida where he resided until last year when he sought out a position with Sax because of the growth opportunity and the chance to be closer to home and family.

Since joining the firm, Josh has been eager to learn, teach and lead, and has demonstrated great skill, passion and commitment to his work and clients.  Josh strives to be a mentor to his subordinates and an advocate in their corner, and he has great aspirations for where he wants to take his career.  Josh’s peers acknowledge not only his hunger for success and his stellar work ethic, but also acknowledge his supportive and pleasant demeanor and someone people whole-heartedly enjoy working with.

Josh’s performance manager, Josh Chananie touts Josh’s work ethic and drive, “Josh works hard at not only bringing out the best of his own abilities, but is a motivator and attempts to bring out the best in others around him as well – whether that be on an engagement or in the office.  We are extremely lucky to have him as he is a vital asset to the firm and we look forward to watching him grow from here!”

Read on to get to know Josh better with our Q&A:

  1. What college did you attend? What was your major?

I went to Florida Atlantic University in Boca Raton, Florida and received my Bachelor’s degree in Accounting in the Summer of 2013.

  1. Any continued education? Credentials?

I recently began my journey for my CPA license which I hope to obtain within the next year.

  1. When did you start working at Sax?

I started working at Sax in June of 2017 after previously working for a public accounting firm in Fort Lauderdale, Florida for 4 years.  When the opportunity to join Sax came up, I realized the growth potential in the New York City area and working for a rapidly growing firm like Sax.  I also wanted to return to this area to be near my family, so joining this firm was an opportunity too good to pass up.

  1. What is your current title? What are your day-to-day responsibilities at Sax?

I have just recently been promoted to A&A Manager. My day-to-day responsibilities vary from acting as the liaison between our clients and Senior Manager/Partners on engagements, performing appropriate audit procedures, reviewing subordinates work, networking and providing value added services to our clients.  I also take a leadership role with my subordinates to make sure they are properly mentored and are fulfilling their responsibilities, in addition to guiding them to align with the firm’s high standards of client service.

  1. What are a few things you have learned at Sax?

I have learned a great deal from my superiors on how to improve my audit skills to be a better auditor and what steps I need to take to continue to grow my knowledge and in-turn advance in my career.

Since working at Sax, I have also been exposed to industries I was not previously familiar with, such as Construction and Real Estate.  Taking projects on in these different areas allows me the opportunity to gain more experience and knowledge so I can be a more well-rounded trusted advisor which I am thankful for.

  1. Explain some of your biggest achievements in your career or life.

Obtaining my CPA license will be my biggest achievement of my career thus far, but until then I would say my biggest achievement has been acting on my decision to move to New York City.  It was tough to pick up and leave the life and career I created for myself in Florida, but I believed there was more opportunity for me elsewhere and mustering the strength and courage to change and make the move is something that I am very proud of myself for.

  1. Do you have a vision or goal for your career?

I look forward to growing at Sax and I see potential in myself to move up the ladder here by obtaining more experience and expertise in the different vertical markets we serve. My goal is to meet the high standards of excellence the firm sets for all of us, and to truly become a trusted advisor for our clients.  I am currently part of the Not-for-Profit niche and my aim is to ultimately sit on a Board of a nonprofit organization.  I also intend to get more involved in the firm’s Manufacturing and Distribution and Real Estate niches and gain more exposure in those areas.

  1. Do you frequently speak at events or publish articles to demonstrate expertise?

I am currently working to write more content and get my name out there in the public by demonstrating my knowledge in an array of areas.  As of right now, I have not done any public speaking but I would certainly love to take on those opportunities in the future as I move up my career and gain more expertise.

  1. What volunteer work and/or charities do you participate in?

I was very active when I lived in Florida in various local organizations, particularly addressing the underprivileged.  While at Sax, I have participated in Paterson’s Habitat for Humanity and my ultimate goal is to become much more active in the wonderful nonprofit organizations we serve.

  1. Are there any other interesting facts about you outside of your work life?

Outside of work, I love to spend time golfing, watching sports and rooting for my home teams, the New York Giants and Yankees.  Since my move back to New York, I also spend as much time as possible with my family which I enjoy very much.
