October Sax Spotlight: John King and Gail Hughes

In this month’s Sax Spotlight, we highlight the work ethic and dedication of Client Service Associate, Gail Hughes, and Senior Associate, John King.

John King

This month, we are proud to shine our Sax Spotlight on Senior Associate, John King. John joined the firm in November of 2017 and was promoted to a Senior A&A Associate in June of 2019. He primarily works within the firm’s Not-for-Profit niche and also assists the firm’s Manufacturing & Distribution team. John is working towards his CPA license and intends to obtain his MBA in the near future.

What college did you attend? What was your major?

I attended Rutgers New Brunswick and received my Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting.

Any continued education? 

I am looking forward to going back to school to earn my MBA in the near future.

When did you start working at Sax?

I started working for Sax in November of 2017.

What is your current title?

I was promoted to a Senior A&A Associate in June of 2019.

What are your day-to-day responsibilities at Sax?  What do you specialize in?

Daily, I am running audits, speaking with clients, and reviewing work papers and other associate’s audits. I mostly work in the firm’s Not-for-Profit niche, but I also have experience in the Manufacturing & Distribution niche.

What are a few things you have learned at Sax?

I have learned how to better work and collaborate in a team setting. When I became a Senior Associate, I also learned how to properly delegate work amongst other associates and appropriately manage our workflow to ensure our jobs were being completed in a timely and efficient manner.

Explain some of your biggest achievements while working at Sax.

My biggest achievements to date are being promoted to a Senior Associate and being trusted to hold more responsibility within the firm.

Do you have a vision or goal for your career?

I am working towards obtaining by CPA license and look forward to working my way up the ranks of Sax to hopefully become a Partner of the firm.

What volunteer work and/or charities do you participate in?

I have previously participated in Sax’s Annual 4 MILER benefiting St. Joseph’s Children’s Hospital and Sax’s annual Habitat for Humanity build that supports the Paterson community.

Are there any other interesting facts about you outside of your work life?

I have a love for traveling and enjoy snowboarding and surfing. I am also a big New York Yankees fan.

She values the team-oriented environment that Sax facilitates and believes it is a crucial part in assisting the clients she serves.

What college did you attend? What was your major?

I attended Katherine Gibbs College where I received my Executive Secretary’s degree.

When did you start working at Sax?

I began working at Sax on March 13, 2003.

What is your current title?

I am currently a Client Service Associate (CSA).

What are your day-to-day responsibilities at Sax? 

Some of my day-to-day responsibilities include printing and processing tax returns and correspondences, setting up meetings for the Partners I serve, and handling client inquiries.

What are a few things you have learned at Sax?

I have learned that if you set your mind to something, you can accomplish anything. When I began working at Sax, I had no idea what was involved in preparing tax returns, and now I have over 17 years of experience with them. I also learned how important teamwork is for work to be completed cohesively and successfully.

Explain some of your biggest achievements while working at Sax.

I pioneered and ran the firm’s Action Against Hunger Food Drive that benefits food pantries around the area from 2008-2015.

Explain some of your biggest achievements in life.

Around 9 years ago, I started my health journey and lost over 100 pounds. I am also a proud mom of my 2 cats.

What volunteer work and/or charities do you participate in?

I support Action Against Hunger and the Clifton Animal Shelter. I am also involved with my church’s soup kitchen.

Are there any other interesting facts about you outside of your work life?

I have a passion for cooking, baking and all things Irish. I am also a big New York Yankees and Miami Dolphins fan.
