May Sax Spotlight: Anthony Joseph and Al Traverso

In this month’s Sax Spotlight, we highlight the work ethic and dedication of Partner, Al Traverso, and Tax Manager, Anthony Joseph.

Anthony Joseph, CPA

 

This month, we are proud to shine our Sax Spotlight on Tax Manager, Anthony Joseph. Anthony began working for the firm in November of 2017 as a Senior Associate and was promoted to Tax Manager in July of 2019 due to his strong work ethic. His main responsibilities include preparation, review and revisions of tax returns and he proudly serves on the firm’s Innovation Committee.

What college did you attend? What was your major?

I attended William Paterson University and received my Bachelor’s Degree in Marketing.

Any continued education or credentials?

After graduating, I attended grad school at Montclair State University and received my MBA with a concentration in Accounting. After that, I obtained my CPA license.

When did you start working at Sax?

I began working at Sax in November of 2017 as a Senior Tax Associate.

What is your current title?

I was promoted to Tax Manager this past July.

What are your day-to-day responsibilities at Sax?

On a day-to-day basis, I focus on the preparation, review and revisions of both business and multi-state complex tax returns.

What are a few things you have learned at Sax?

I have learned to take advantage of the many valuable resources that Sax has to offer, and to use my peers as a resource. At Sax, we are constantly helping each other and learning something from one another every day.

Explain some of your biggest achievements while working at Sax.

One of my biggest achievements is being a part of the firm’s Innovation Committee and being able to contribute meaningful solutions that aid in the firm’s productivity and success.  I also take pride in being a resource to others in the firm by leading training programs for more inexperienced team members such as Tax Study Groups or Tax Focus Groups, covering current events or topics related to current tax law changes.

Explain some of your biggest achievements in life.

So far, my biggest achievement in life was being able to give back to my parents by helping them renovate their home.

Do you have a vision or goal for your career?

I would like to advance my leadership skills and qualities to run or own a business in the future.

What volunteer work do you participate in?

I do ministry work for my local parish.

Are there any other interesting facts about you outside of your work life? 

I have a love for travel. I am also a new father to my puppy. My favorite hobbies are grilling and playing basketball in my spare time.

What college did you attend? What was your major?

When did you start working at Sax?

I began working at Sax in September of 1996.

What is your current title?

I am a Partner in the firm’s Manufacturing & Distribution (M&D) and Not-for-Profit (NFP) niches.

What are your day-to-day responsibilities at Sax? 

On a day-to-day basis, I speak with our M&D and NFP clients, see what challenges they are currently facing and advise them on how to deal with those issues. I also work directly with team members on engagements to provide support and guidance as they are working with clients and completing engagements.

What are a few things you have learned at Sax?

I have learned that our clients look to us to be their #1 advisor and it is up to each of us to make sure we guide them to personal and professional success. I have also learned that you must take the time to invest in your own career and continue to learn new skills and expand your knowledge. By doing so, it will enable you to innovate with the changing times and better advise your clients. Lastly, I have learned that Sax provides opportunities for each of us to succeed and by leveraging trainings and resources can better position yourself to advance forward in the firm.

Explain some of your biggest achievements while working at Sax.

My biggest achievements include passing the CPA exam and becoming a Partner and leader in the firm’s M&D and NFP niches.

Explain some of your biggest achievements in life.

I am a very proud father of my children Noah and Brenna and find fatherhood very rewarding.

Do you have a vision or goal for your career?

I strive to continually bring value to my clients by being their trusted advisor. One of my goals is to be able to transfer my knowledge and experience down to the future leaders of Sax and help them grow in their own careers.

Do you frequently speak at events or publish articles to demonstrate expertise?

I frequently write articles focusing on current M&D and NFP topics and provide trainings for both niches.

Are there any other interesting facts about you outside of your work life?

My kids and I have recently taken up fishing, and it’s a great way to relax and spend some time with my kids. Whenever I have some free time, I like to take a trip to The Hot Grill or Rutt’s Hut.
