In this month’s Sax Spotlight, we highlight the work ethic and dedication of Partner, Stephen Ehrenberg, and Senior Marketing Manager, Margaret Henn.
Stephen Ehrenberg, CPA, MBT
This month, we are proud to shine our Sax Spotlight on Partner, Stephen Ehrenberg. Stephen began his career at Sax in January of 2017 and brings over 20 years of experience in his role. He serves as an important member of the firm’s Tax Department and PPP Advisory Task Force, and daily, he focuses on corporate, partnership and individual taxations. Stephen has proved to be a wealth of knowledge for his clients, a leader and resource for team members and a vital asset to Sax overall.

What college did you attend? What was your major?
I attended the University of Michigan where I double majored in History and Sociology. I then took all my Accounting and Tax classes at UCLA as part of a program they offered after I graduated from Michigan.
Any continued education?
I received my Masters in Business Taxation from the University of Southern California.
When did you start working at Sax?
I started my career at Sax in January of 2017.
What is your current title? Recent promotions?
I was promoted from Tax Director to Partner in January of 2019.
What are your day-to-day responsibilities at Sax? What do you specialize in?
Daily, I work on corporate, partnership and individual taxation.
I have a focus in the Construction, Manufacturing, Distribution, Transaction Advisory and eCommerce industries, and specialize in advising clients with complex tax related matters such as structuring merger & acquisition transactions, providing recommendations in the areas of domestic & international tax strategies, along with helping individuals, corporations and partnerships make sound tax decisions.
I am also a member of the firm’s PPP Advisory Task Force which is focused on all loan options and forgiveness strategies aimed at providing businesses with relief during the disruptive COVID-19 pandemic. As a member of the Task Force, I provide expertise on interpreting the new legislation and advise clients on maximizing the benefits.
What are a few things you have learned here?
Above all else, I have learned what a terrific organization we have. Our core values are embedded in our culture and help form the backbone of how we operate, and I am proud to be a member of the Sax team.
Explain some of your biggest achievements while working at Sax, or in your career.
While I have only been at Sax for a short while, I have gotten a lot out of my time here. I have been fortunate enough to work with a great team and have really benefited from the company culture and the people, and have had some great client experiences. I am proud to see our firm continue to grow and flourish. I have also been fortunate enough to work outside the U.S. – I did two rotations with a previous employer in Hyderabad, India and was able to attend a week-long leadership training in Athens, Greece with colleagues from across the EMEA region.
Explain some of your biggest achievements in life.
I try to be humble and be better today than yesterday.
Do you have a vision or goal for your career?
I would like to see the firm continue the great momentum we have and further the path towards difference-making experiences and opportunities for our clients and our people.
Do you frequently speak at events or publish articles to demonstrate expertise?
I have been a presenter on over 30 PPP loan forgiveness and COVID-19 relief related webinars, as well as our recent CFO Focus that shed light for businesses on the tax impact of the pandemic. I have also written numerous articles and tax alerts on meaningful topics to our client base.
What volunteer work and/or charities do you participate in?
I have participated in the annual Habitat for Humanity build that supports the Paterson community.
Are there any other interesting facts about you outside of your work life?
I attribute this to my wonderful wife, as before I was married, I rarely traveled, but now I travel whenever I can. In addition to my wedding in Turks and Caicos in 2015, I have been to China, Portugal, Mexico, Switzerland, Canada and Aruba in the last couple of years. I also have 5 sisters.

Please join us in shining our Sax Spotlight on Senior Marketing Manager, Margaret Henn. Margaret began working at Sax in May of 2017 and was promoted to Senior Marketing Manager in 2019. Her day-to-day responsibilities include ensuring important information is released to Sax’s client base in the form of webinars and written content, showcasing Sax’s industry expertise and service offerings to the public, facilitating internal and external events, and maintaining Sax’s brand integrity.

What college did you attend? What was your major?
I attended Dominican College in Blauvelt, NY on a basketball scholarship. I majored in Social Sciences.
When did you start working at Sax?
I started working at Sax in May of 2017 as a Marketing Manager. I started my career as a Communications Coordinator with the Verizon Foundation, and then worked many years for a B2B marketing firm. From there I worked as a Marketing Manager for a utility auditing firm, and then a law firm which provided me with experience in professional services and led me to Sax.
What is your current title? Recent promotions?
I was promoted to Senior Marketing Manager in 2019.
What are your day-to-day responsibilities at Sax? What do you specialize in?
My day-to-day responsibilities include ensuring important information is released to the public and our client base in the form of webinars, articles and press releases; promoting Sax’s industry expertise and service offerings through numerous vehicles including advertisements, external-facing events, website management and social media; assisting with internal communications that keep team members informed such as our monthly BUZZ newsletter and Town Hall presentations; and, assist with internal events and community fundraisers to increase team member engagement and a culture for giving. My specialties include content management, brand exposure and overall project management.
What are a few things you have learned here?
I have learned a great deal here at Sax, including how to be a better professional and a better team player. I work with a fantastic team and have really lucked out with being able to work with friends in an environment of honest feedback and constructive criticism that constantly drives me to be better. Sax has also provided me with beneficial training that has helped me further develop my professional skills – such as delegating, having tough conversations, time management and effective leadership.
Explain some of your biggest achievements while working at Sax, or in your career.
Being promoted to Senior Marketing Manager has been my biggest work achievement so far. I try my hardest to be the best I can be in my role and receiving recognition for my efforts and promoted to the next level is something I am very proud of.
Do you have a vision or goal for your career?
I simply want to be an asset to Sax, and to be a direct contributor to the firm’s success and the success of those team members I support.
Do you frequently speak at events or publish articles to demonstrate expertise?
No – my role is to get our firm’s advisors speaking and writing opportunities to demonstrate their expertise.
What volunteer work and/or charities do you participate in?
I sit on the Board of the Marist Brothers Center at Esopus (MBCE) which offers week-long sleep away camps that cater to children and adults with developmental, mental, and physical disabilities, deaf children, children living with cancer and inner-city students. I have volunteered at these summer camps as a counselor since I was in high school, and currently serve as Chair of the MBCE’s Marketing Committee.
Are there any other interesting facts about you outside of your work life?
I was recently married to the love of my life on New Years Eve 2020; I have 11 siblings; I am an animal-lover, yoga-lover and travel-lover.
