Oct 18 Family Promise of Morris County Awarded $20,000 Gift in Sax LLP’s 6th Annual Founders’ Award
Parsippany, NJ – October 19, 2023 – Sax LLP, a top 100 accounting, tax and advisory firm, is proud to announce Family Promise of Morris County as the recipient of the 6th Annual Sax Founders’ Award. Among nearly 125 applicants, Family Promise of Morris County best addressed this year’s theme of “Accessibility.”
The $20,000 unrestricted gift and 1-year subscription to Yearly were accepted by Family Promise of Morris County’s CEO Joann Bjornson, LSW. Upon accepting the award, Bjornson commented that the monies awarded will be used to offset the costs associated with necessary infrastructure expansion to support the nonprofit organization’s growth to create opportunities for people in need.
Specifically, Family Promise of Morris County’s mission is to end homelessness and increase housing stability for families and individuals in Morris County. While the programs are funded by various grants, the nonprofit faces expanding infrastructure needs and other indirect costs, as the organization grows during periods of economic uncertainty. Challenges include pay inequity, talent retention, and inflation. The Founders’ Award by Sax allows Family Promise of Morris County to address these obstacles without halting its mission.
The Founders’ Award was open to all 501 (c) (3) organizations. Each nonprofit was asked to submit a short video on how they are addressing accessibility in their community. The Top 75 applicants were invited to attend the Founders’ Award ceremony held at the Chart House in Weehawken, NJ, on Thursday, September 28, 2023.
In addition to the first-place winner, two other organizations were selected for their demonstration and impact of accessibility. Second place was awarded to Oasis – A Haven for Women and Children in Paterson, whose programs are designed to feed, clothe, educate and empower women and children in need. The nonprofit was awarded a complimentary “mission moment” video package by Beard & Bowler Productions (valued at $12,500). Third place recipient, Team Wilderness of Jersey City, who grows teamwork, leadership and character within urban youth through wilderness excursions, received a $5,000 unrestricted gift.
The Founders Award initiative is proudly supported by the Sax Charitable Foundation, a 501 (c) (3) organization within Sax LLP that was established as a means for Sax to give back to the community. As a champion of nonprofits, The Founders’ Award is a way for Sax to honor the values of its founders by empowering and supporting those organizations to continue making a positive impact in the communities they serve.
