Mar 03 Divorce Trials Suspended in 6 NJ Counties
Earlier this month, Chief Justice Stuart Rabner announced civil trials including those for divorce, labor discrimination, medical malpractice, and personal injury will not be conducted in two regions known as vicinages due to the high number of judicial vacancies, except in limited circumstances.
The two vicinages include 6 New Jersey counties: Hunterdon, Somerset, Warren, Cumberland, Gloucester, and Salem.
There are vacancies throughout New Jersey and other vicinages may follow suit.
Now is a great time to consider alternative dispute resolutions in divorce cases including mediation, collaborative law and arbitration.
Mediation utilizes an impartial third party to work with the divorcing couple.
Collaborative Law is where each party is represented by a separate attorney. The parties commit to reaching a settlement without resorting to any form of litigation or court adjudication.
Arbitration is a structured process where an arbitrator makes the final decision, similar to a Judge in Court.
