In this month’s Sax Spotlight, we highlight the work ethic and dedication of Manager, Anna Malafis, and Senior Associate, Alec Marceles.
Anna Malafis
This month, we are proud to shine our Sax Spotlight on Manager, Anna Malafis. Anna started her career at Sax through the 2017 merger of the Hunter Group. She plays a key role in the firm’s A&A Department and concentrates on Employee Benefit Plan Audits and the Manufacturing & Distribution industry. Her goal is to be a trusted resource for her clients which she demonstrates every day.

What college did you attend? What was your major?
I attended William Paterson University where I received my Bachelor’s in Accounting.
When did you start working at Sax?
I began working for Sax after the merger with The Hunter Group in 2017 and have over 15 years of experience between both firms.
What is your current title? Recent promotions?
I am currently a Manager in our A&A Department.
What are your day-to-day responsibilities at Sax? What do you specialize in?
My responsibilities usually consist of assisting clients with day to day issues and needs, running audits from start to finish and reviewing engagements. I also run internal trainings to assist with the development of younger staff, and this is something I truly enjoy. I am a part of the firm’s A&A Department but also focus on the Manufacturing and Distribution niche, and my passion is with Employee Benefit Plan Audits.
What are a few things you have learned here?
At Sax, I have learned the importance of time management, and how organization is key to being successful. I have learned how to be a better team player and most importantly how to be a better manager. The people here are great and it’s a pleasure working here at SAX.
Explain some of your biggest achievements while working at Sax, or in your career.
To date, I would say my biggest achievement is being promoted to Manager.
Explain some of your biggest achievements in life.
My biggest achievements in life are my two beautiful girls, hands down. They make me proud to be their mom every day!
Do you have a vision or goal for your career?
My continuing goal is to assist clients with their accounting and business issues to the best of my abilities. I strive to be a trusted advisor to our clients every day, and it is very fulfilling to know through my hard work, dedication and continued education, that I can be an important resource to them and deliver results that help them reach success.
What volunteer work and/or charities do you participate in?
I volunteer at my parish as often as I can. My kids are involved in some church activities and I try to help, especially with fundraiser events.
Are there any other interesting facts about you outside of your work life?
I love spending time with my family and traveling. We try to go to Greece as often as we can. Teaching my kids about our culture and watching them fall in love with the country every time is truly amazing.
Alec Marceles
Please join us in shining our Sax Spotlight on Senior A&A Associate, Alec Marceles. Alec began working at Sax as a Tax Intern in 2017 and was hired as an A&A Associate in 2018. Daily, he completes audits and reviews work for Sax’s Construction clients. In addition to demonstrating great work ethic and client commitment, Alec is also studying for his CPA exam and plans to attend Graduate School once he passes.

What college did you attend? What was your major?
I attended Fairleigh Dickinson University where I majored in Accounting.
Any continued education? Credentials?
I am currently studying for the CPA exam and hope to complete my first part in the next few months. After receiving my license, I would like to attend grad school.
When did you start working at Sax?
I started working at Sax as a Tax Intern in 2017 and was hired as an A&A Associate in 2018.
What is your current title? Recent promotions?
I was promoted to A&A Senior Associate in July 2020.
What are your day-to-day responsibilities at Sax? What do you specialize in?
Daily, I complete audits and review work for Sax’s Construction clients.
What are a few things you have learned here?
Throughout my time at Sax, I have learned the importance of utilizing the resources the firm has to offer to further your own knowledge and skillset. I believe you can learn a little something from everyone and opening yourself up to help will benefit you and the clients you serve.
Explain some of your biggest achievements while working at Sax, or in your career.
My biggest achievement at Sax has been my promotion to Senior A&A Associate.
Explain some of your biggest achievements in life.
So far, my biggest achievement in life has been graduating college and beginning my career.
Do you have a vision or goal for your career?
For now, my focus is on passing the CPA exam and leveraging the trainings and resources Sax has to offer so I can be a trusted advisor to our clients.
Do you frequently speak at events or publish articles to demonstrate expertise?
I have gone back to Fairleigh Dickinson in the past to speak on my experience at Sax during recruitment events/meetings with the school’s accounting society.
What volunteer work and/or charities (if any) do you participate in?
I have previously participated in the Sax’s annual 4 Miler event benefitting St. Joseph’s Children’s Hospital.
Are there any other interesting facts about you outside of your work life?
I am an avid music fan and have been to over 50 concerts across a range of genres. I also enjoy watching movies and playing video games as a way to relax after a long day of work.
